Before the National Hot Rod Association’s finest take on Bristol Dragway for the O’Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Q May 16-18, their driving skills will be put to the test at a different venue May 15.
The Fifth Annual Bristol Dragway Celebrity Golf Benefit takes place this year at the Country Club of Bristol, the day before action kicks off in Thunder Valley.
The tournament, which draws numerous NHRA drivers each year, benefits Speedway Children’s Charities. Last year 19 drivers vying for the Darrell Russell Cup helped raise more than $30,000 for children’s agencies in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Some of the drivers expected to play in this year’s benefit are defending Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher, Melanie Troxel, Rod Fuller, Hillary Will, Morgan Lucas, J.R. Todd, Allen Johnson, Bob Vandergriff, Dave Grubnic, Doug Herbert, Greg Anderson and Jason Line.
The tournament begins with registration at 10:30 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. putting contest, lunch at 11:30 and the shotgun start at 1 p.m.
A limited number of slots remain available. Hole sponsorship is $1,500, which includes a foursome and signage on the sponsored hole. Teams also may be purchased for $1,200 without a hole sponsorship. All team members will receive a goody bag as well as lunch.
