Sharky 500 October 4, 2008
The Tri-Cities region certainly is familiar with NASCAR's most popular race, the Sharpie 500. However, a race of a different kind is headed to BMS that may prove to be just as popular - it's the Sharky 500.
The inaugural Sharky 500, which boasts a first prize Centurion Falcon V Air Warrior boat, valued at $40,000, will take place at BMS on October 4th.
Just what is the "Sharky 500?" It's a race with up to 10,000 rubber sharks down Beaver Creek which runs adjacent to Speedway property. For $10, individuals may purchase a shark to gain the chance at winning the Centurion Falcon V Air Warrior, which also comes with a trailer. There is no limit to the number of sharks an individual may purchase. Proceeds from the event benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.
Officials will "dump" the sharks simultaneously into the creek and the first one to the finish line will win its owner the grand prize. A number of other prizes will be given away, including a room makeover by Grand Home Furnishings and a vacation package from Diamond Resorts. Winners are not required to be present to win.
Also accompanying the event is Bristol Motor Speedway's first ever Kids Expo. From 11 am to 2 pm, Speedway grounds will boast a wide array of child-friendly activities and attractions. Admission to the event is free. Check out the list of activities here.
The Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities, which has raised in excess of $4 million in the last 11 years for children's agencies in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Media sponsors for the event include WJHL Newschannel 11, Bristol Herald-Courier and, 98.5 WTFM and Classic Hits 102.7.
Sharks may be purchased at the BMS ticket office right up until the Sharky 500 takes place on October 4th. For more information, please contact Barbara Kaiser by calling 423.989.6975 or e-mail barbara@bristolmotorspeedway.com. |
