All We Can Expect Is The Unexpected
The Sprint Cup boys ran the first “competition” race of the 2013 season Saturday night behind the wheels of the new Gen-6 cars. All I can say is watch out!
When they unleash those new cars on the high banks of Bristol in just four short weeks, who knows what’s going to happen? As we promoters like to say, “You gotta be here to find out!”
Well-seasoned Bristol veterans know, and first-timers soon will discover, that particular statement truly means something different at Bristol.
At Bristol there is a clear and distinct difference between sitting in the stands versus being parked in front of your TV.
The sights, the sounds, the smell, the emotion and the anticipation of what’s going to happen next contribute to a racin’ recipe you can’t taste anywhere else.
On TV, or even at many other tracks? You get may get asampling. But in a seat here at “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile” you can see and experience everything.
How do drivers feel about it?
Believe it or not, Bristol scares these guys. We talked to 2012 Sprint Cup Series Champ and defending Food City 500 winner Brad Keselowski about the first time he came here. We asked him if he was scared and he said, “Um… yeah!” So much, so that when he removed himself from his car his hands were shaking and he needed some significant time to calm down. So… Combine the new Gen-6 car with the anxiety already built into these drivers, and coming off an August ‘12 IRWIN Tools Night Race that will go down in the Bristol history books (to relive, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieLJLWy0BFU), watch out!
It will all go down under the beautiful Tennessee sky on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th.
Are you ready yet? Good! I’ll see you at the race.
P.S. On behalf of everyone at Bristol, Congratulations to Danica Patrick on making history Sunday by qualifying first for the Daytona 500, the first woman ever to win the pole for a Sprint Cup Race.
