As we're gearing down in 2013, I believe it's a fitting time to look through the windshield as we hammer down towards the holiday season. Okay, I'll stop with the racing puns but you have to admit inserting three into one sentence is impressive.

It's hard for us not to be in the Christmas spirit at BMS. Ford Speedway In Lights powered by TVA, the Johnson Controls Ice Rink and HVAC Chill Hill have been in operation for over a month now. We also have a fellowship area that consists of a faux fireplace, Christmas music, snacks and an area for us to gather. The fellowship area is a great opportunity for us to take a second and chat with our colleagues. After all, we are a big family at Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway and this is just another example of that statement.

Speaking of family, I hope each of you has the opportunity to spend time with or connect with relatives during this holiday season. Heck, many of us have friends we consider family so I should include them as well. Regardless, this time of the year is near and dear to my heart and I look forward to spending time with my loved ones.

For many of us, it is easy to get caught up in the retail hoopla of the season. People are so fixated on buying a gift for everyone on their list, but Christmas is much more than that (at least it should be).  Remembering the true "reasons" for the season should remain the center of focus for us.

I guess what I'm really getting at is the importance of loved ones and family during this season. While I haven't had the privilege of personally meeting most of you, I still consider you a part of my Bristol family. So many of us walk into this place as strangers but we leave as "family" after the first trip.

It's amazing the relationships that I've formed with folks from all of the country simply because we have a passion for racing and Bristol. I can't wait to see what 2014 holds and look forward to creating new friendships as you make the trek to The Last Great Colosseum and Thunder Valley.

From our Bristol family to yours, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
