Smith and McMillian have big games in week six
McMillian sets career highs
Virginia Tech's Travon McMillian had one of his biggest games of season to help the Hokies beat ACC foe North Carolina State. McMillian ran for a total of 96 yards, his second 90-plus yard run game this season.
McMillian's 96 total yards of rushing was capped with a 59-yard touchdown run during which he hurled over a NC State player. McMillian set career highs this week in carries (11) and yards (96). "My mindset was just to run the ball hard," McMillian said to hokiessports.com. "Read my blocks, and if a guy is there, just run over him. Just play physical."
"I think he's a guy that can make a difference in a ball game," said head coach Frank Beamer, of McMillian to hokiessports.com. "He's dangerous. He's got speed. He's got power. Our fans are going to like that guy a lot before he leaves here. He's got it."
Travon McMillian is looking to be one of the top running backs to make his mark at the Battle at Bristol in 2016.
Josh Smith has best game of the season
Red shirt sophomore Josh Smith played a key role in making one of the biggest plays of the game Saturday against SEC rival, the Georgia Bulldogs.
With Tennessee building momentum just before half time, UT called Smith's number. Smith was able to capitalize on a key 39 yard touchdown pass on 4th and 8 from quarterback Josh Dobbs to pull the Vols within 14 points, going into the half.
"He had to flip his hips, open his hips. The ball was thrown a little bit behind him, and then he finished it. That really created some momentum for us," said head coach Butch Jones on utsports.com. "We finally had some individuals step up in key moments of the game that made critical plays at critical stages of the game. Josh has been very consistent all year."
"The 4th-and-8 is a big play and I mean we got to come down with the football," said Josh Smith on his 39-yard touchdown catch. "Dobbs did a great job staying in the pocket, made a great throw and I made a catch."
Josh Smith is continuing to be one of the top receivers to watch in the upcoming Battle at Bristol in September 2016.
