Honda Ridgeline Presents Bristol's Tailgate Party
A concert of epic proportion is coming home to the Last Great Colosseum.
As part of the Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol weekend, the ultimate tailgating vehicle, the all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline truck will help kick-off festivities with the Honda Ridgeline Presents Bristol's Tailgate Party starring Kenny Chesney. The East Tennessee native, hailed as "The King of the Road" by The Wall Street Journal and the only country artist on Billboard's "Top 10 Touring Acts of the Past 25 Years", headlines a three-act concert on Friday night, Sept. 9, 2016.
Rounding out the talent-packed music ticket is Grammy®Award-winning, Greeneville, Tennessee-based The Band Perry, as well as Nashville's Old Dominion. The tailgate event serves as a blockbuster kickoff to a weekend that will host college football's biggest game ever, a legendary showdown between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016.
The concert is the latest major event added to the schedule that truly makes 2016 Bristol Motor Speedway's biggest year ever and helps transform Bristol's reputation into a true multi-faceted venue.
"In terms of excitement, this year is a monster," said Jerry Caldwell, executive vice president and general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway. "I didn't think it was possible for the buzz around this game to get any louder, but Kenny Chesney coming home to lead a massive tailgate party? That news amplifies all the energy a thousand times over."
Chesney, an eight-time Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, has scored 28 #1's, as well as over 40 Top 10's, including "American Kids", "I Go Back", "When The Sun Goes Down", "Summertime" and "Livin' In Fast Forward". Selling over 30 million albums worldwide, the songwriter/superstar's songs have been the soundtrack for coming of age in the flyover for the last fifteen years - and he remains, as The Los Angeles Times wrote, "the people's superstar."
"My days at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City are where I first learned to love what I do," said Chesney. "I played a lot of music in the Bristol area during that time - and even made my first album there while still in college.
"I had a lot of dreams then, but never did I dream I would be playing at Bristol Motor Speedway. The idea of that was too big to dream. So to say I'm excited to be coming back to play in an area where this dream started is an understatement! Music and sports have defined my life, and it's not every day an artist is allowed to combine the two for something as special as this."
Chesney, the only act to sell in excess of a million tickets during each of his headlining tours since 2002, will have just wrapped up his forty date "Spread The Love Tour" in Boston, Aug. 26-27. This tailgate party at Bristol Motor Speedway will follow his wildly successful tour - including 14 NFL stadiums - with gusto.
Punching up the evening's excitement is superstar sibling trio The Band Perry. Hailing from nearby Greeneville, Tennessee, the band has become a sought-after favorite with the hits "If I Die Young," "Postcard from Paris," "Better Dig Two," and "DONE." Comprised of siblings Kimberly and her brothers Reid and Neil Perry, The Band Perry has toured the world over bringing their genre defying music to audiences around the globe. The band's song "Live Forever" has been chosen as the official song for Team USA during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
"There is nothing like tailgating in your own backyard," said The Band Perry. "Some of our nearest and dearest fans are here and we are so excited to bring the music home for this historic weekend."
Topping off the Tailgate ticket is Old Dominion, with band members Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung and Brad Tursi. The band, which hails from Nashville and with original roots in Virginia, debuted in late 2014 with the number one single "Break Up with Him." Their first album, Meat and Candy, was issued last November and spawned a second successful single, "Snapback."
Honda joins the concert event as presenting partner showcasing its all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck to football and music fans. Honda Ridgeline Presents Bristol's Tailgate Party enables the automaker to pair up the ultimate tailgating vehicle, featuring a new available Truck Bed Audio system and available 400-watt power inverter, with the world's largest college football game. The all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline goes on sale later this month.
"The second generation Ridgeline has been redesigned from the ground up with new features that set the standard for versatility and comfort for a pickup truck," said Phil Hruska, manager of Media Strategy at American Honda. "We have deep roots in both music and sports, and having a significant presence at the Battle at Bristol weekend and this epic kick-off event enables us to engage fans with the ultimate tailgating experience created by the Ridgeline."
Honda Ridgeline Presents Bristol's Tailgate Party ticket pre-sale begins on Monday, June 6 with tickets for the general public going on sale on Wednesday, June 8. Tickets are available ranging from $39-$225.
