Renowned fly-fisherman, author and speaker Beau Beasley has joined the weekend lineup for the Thunder Valley Fly & Wine event, May 3-4 to benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.

A Virginia native, Beasley’s pursuit of his prey with a fly has taken him from the salt waters of the Old Dominion’s east coast west to the Blue Ridge Mountains, from Montana to Alaska and Canada. A contributing writer for many regional and national fly-fishing journals and publications Beasley has used his expertise on fly-fishing the Mid-Atlantic region, especially Virginia, to author two books with a third expected this year.

Beasley’s addition to the lineup comes as famed fly angler Lefty Kreh has had to pull out of the event. An unforeseen schedule conflict that has Kreh not only out of the area, but out of the country, prevents the fly fishing legend from making this year’s festivities.

“As disappointed as we are that Lefty cannot make the inaugural version of the Thunder Valley Fly & Wine, after talking with him we realized no one is more disappointed than Lefty himself,” said Claudia Byrd, Executive Director of the Bristol Chapter of SCC. “He has been a supporter of this event since it was just an idea and has said he plans on coming next year.

“Meanwhile, the addition of Beau Beasley to the lineup, joining Jeffrey Cardenas, Blane Chocklett and Bob Clouser as our guest experts, maintains a very strong group of some of the most knowledgeable, well-respected authorities in the sport.”

The Thunder Valley Fly & Wine, highlighting the blue-ribbon trout waters and vineyards of our region to raise money for needy children in the area, takes place May 3-4 with various activities. Many opportunities exist to combine enjoying the resources of Northeast Tennessee and raising money for charity.

Events include: an invitational tournament on the South Holston River, a Kids’ Expo, wine sampling, a private lunch with the guest panel and a special viewing of the movie “Where the Yellowstone Goes.”

All proceeds benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, a non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of children’s lives in the region. To date, in excess of $7 million has been raised for children’s agencies in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
