Bristol Is A Battleground

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Quick… what's the first thing you think of when you think about when you hear the phrase "Bristol Motor Speedway battles?"

For me - and a great many others - I think about Tony Stewart firing his helmet at Matt Kenseth's car during last August’s IRWIN Tools Night Race. That was definitely a defining moment in that race – and further proof that there’s no shorter fuse than that of a driver who’s doing battle at Bristol.

Behind the Scenes...

Monday, April 8, 2013

Well, the first of our big events at Bristol Motor Speedway is in the record books – and let’s face it, the Food City 500 weekend definitely got 2013 started off on a high note.

It was another amazing trio of races. Couldn’t have asked for much better because the action on the track was definitely top-notch.   You guys all saw that so you know what I’m talking about. There are other things, however, that I saw or heard about that you likely did not.

What was your New Year’s Day meal? Traditionally speaking, it should have consisted of black-eyed peas, turnip greens or cabbage and cornbread. At least that’s considered the official good luck meal around these parts on Jan. 1. Black-eyed peas bring prosperity, turnip greens and cabbage are green, so that means you’ll have good fortune and enough money. And cornbread… well…um, I can’t remember.

Brad Keselowski, a two-time Bristol winner, including this year’s Food City 500, is your 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. Of course you already know that, and it's clear that he's going to enjoy his reign as champ... and looks like fans will, too.

How is it possible that a month has already passed since our August Night Races?

It’s such an amazing week that caps a spectacular racing season at Bristol Motor Speedway each year, that we’re all a little lost when it’s over.  Believe me, the adrenaline hits an all-time high when you know thousands and thousands of your friends are coming to visit. And when they leave, you start missing them immediately.

It's go-time around here!

A month might seem like a lot of time but when you work at a race track, it seems more like a week. Without question, it’s go-time around here. Right now -- and believe me, the adrenalin is pumping!

Bristol reflections

By LORI WORLEY

Working at Bristol Motor Speedway, there are lots of questions you hear over and over from friends or acquaintances. Like, “Who’s your favorite driver,” or “Can you get you get me some tickets,” or “How do I get hot passes?”

When yesterday, April 1, rolled around, it hit me. It's been nearly 20 years since Alan Kulwicki’s death. It simply doesn’t seem possible that it’s been that long since that tragic night in 1993 when Kulwicki and three others lost their lives in an airplane crash on the way to Bristol for the Food City 500.

It’s that time of the year again when media from all over the country and beyond head to Charlotte for the annual media tour.

It’s race week in Bristol! And while NASCAR visits a bunch of different tracks, I truly believe race week here is like no other.

So, here we are, 13 races into the 2011 Sprint Cup season. Hard to believe the season is already four months old, and that THE one and only Night Race will be here in less than 80 days.

Lots will happen, of course, before the IRWIN Tools Night Race Aug. 27… but wow, hasn’t there been plenty to talk about so far this year?
