NASCAR Announces 2009 Bristol Motor Speedway Race Weekends
NEW - Adjust Font Size:

There will be a change for one of the two NASCAR dates at Bristol Motor Speedway for next year as the sanctioning body announced its 2009 Sprint Cup Series schedule today.

While the Food City 500 weekend at racing's most popular NASCAR venue will remain in March, the event will be one week later, March 20-22. The action-packed schedule begins with Pole Day March 20, the Sharpie MINI 300 March 21, culminating with the Food City 500 March 22.

BMS president Jeff Byrd was pleased that the date was moved to later in March but hopes for an even later date in the future.

"We asked NASCAR for a later date," said Byrd. "While it's not as late as we had hoped, it is further into March and NASCAR officials have said that they will continue to work with us."

The Sharpie 500 Sprint Cup race, along with the Food City 250 event, will be held Aug. 21-22 while the O'Reilly 200 Craftsman Truck Series/Food City 150 Hooters Pro Cup doubleheader will be held on Aug. 19.
