Second Annual "Rubbin' Is Racing" Spice Rub Contest At BMS -- Entries Due August 14!
NEW - Adjust Font Size:

Back by popular demand, Bristol Motor Speedway and their official restaurateur, Levy Restaurants, are bringing back the "Rubbin' is Racing" Spice Rub Contest at the Food City 250 and Sharpie 500, August 21-22, 2009.  A play on the rubbin' between race cars that is notorious at Bristol Motor Speedway's short track, this spice rub contest is open to NASCAR fans and backyard BBQ enthusiasts alike.  The winning chef will take home a bevy of great prizes including exclusive Bristol Club Suite tickets to the Sprint Cup Sharpie 500 and a $750 Visa Gift Card.

Levy Restaurants is now accepting entries and seeking recipe submissions for a contest to be held on Friday, August 21 at the speedway to find NASCAR's best homemade spice rub for pork. Spice rubs are a combination of ground spices, seasonings and herbs that add flavor and texture, are coated on raw food, then left on or partially removed before grilling.

The winning chef will have their Spice Rub named the Official Spice Rub of Bristol Motor Speedway and to be featured in select concessions stands throughout the Speedway during the 2010 season. The winner will also receive a $750 Visa Gift Card, an official Bristol Motor Speedway/Levy Restaurants chef coat, a behind-the-scenes tour of the pit area and two Bristol Club Suite tickets for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Sharpie 500 Race being held on Saturday, August 22. The exclusive Bristol Club Suite features climate controlled theatre-style reserved seating, Levy Restaurants signature Chef's Tables, wait staff, closed-circuit television coverage of the races and a souvenir program.

The other finalists will not walk away empty handed either, as even the contestants who do not win receive two Bristol Club Suite Tickets for the NASCAR Nationwide Food City 250 race on Friday, August 21.

Five finalists will be selected and starting at 1 p.m. will have two hours to prepare, grill and present their signature dishes on Friday, August 21 at 3 p.m. at Bristol Motor Speedway, where they will be reviewed by local judges including Bristol Motor Speedway President Jeff Byrd and his wife, Claudia Byrd, and Levy Restaurants Area Executive Chef, Sam Carlsen, with additional judges to be named at a later date.

Last year's winner, Sydney Elam of Lenoir City, Tennessee, is a backyard BBQ enthusiast and a first-time cooking contest entrant that surprised the crowd by taking the title over more seasoned cooking experts. His rub, dubbed "Syd's Famous Rub," is being served throughout Bristol Motor Speedway during the 2009 season.
