Georgia-born country music sensation Billy Currington will sing the national anthem prior to the sold-out Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 25.
This will be Currington’s first trip to the World’s Fastest Half-Mile, where he’ll sing in front of nearly 160,000 fans.
"I am excited to be part of the tradition at Bristol Motor Speedway and share in the excitement of a live NASCAR event,” says Currington. “I have played in front of thousands of people before, but this is a very different experience that I am looking forward to.”
Currington, who hails from Rincon, Ga. , is one of country music’s most popular singer/songwriters with a number of hits, including “Walk a Little Straighter” and “I Got a Feelin,” both of which were Top 10 on Billboard's Top Current Country Singles chart. Currington also partnered with Shania Twain on the hugely successful “Party for Two.”
Currington’s latest CD, “Doin’ Somethin’ Right” has spawned yet another hit in the title track. He also co-wrote much of the album, including “Why, Why, Why,” “Whole Lot More,” “Here I Am,” and “She’s Got A Way With Me,” a duet with the legendary Michael McDonald of Doobie Brothers fame.
Currington's musical success has earned national media attention, including articles in both People magazine and USA Today, which named Currington an “On the Verge” artist. Nashville Lifestyles magazine also recently named the 33-year-old one of country’s biggest sex symbols and selected him to its “25 Most Beautiful People” list.
The Food City 500 takes the green flag at 2 p.m.
