Speedway In Lights Powered By TVA Gets Even Brighter With Addition Of 90,000 Dixie Stampede Dancing Lights
NEW - Adjust Font Size:

The 2007 Speedway In Lights season opens Friday, Nov. 16.

In each of the last 10 years of Speedway In Lights Powered By TVA new displays or additional lights have been added to one of the largest and most popular holiday events in the Southeast.

When the show opens on Friday, Nov. 16, the latest addition, the Dixie Stampede Dancing Lights, is destined to become an instant fan favorite. The Dancing Lights will encircle the Speedway's wheel fence so that when spectators embark on their drive around the World's Fastest Half-Mile as part of the 5.2-mile route they'll experience a myriad of dazzling on-track lights.

The Dancing Lights feature 16,800 square feet of LED net lighting, six feet high, all around the half-mile oval. That translates to 90,000 more lights, all white, which will be synchronized to holiday music. And that's not all. The big scoring tower Christmas tree in the infield also gets more lights, as the 60 strands of 100-foot long lighting will double to 120 strands. The tree, which features multi-colored lights, also will be synchronized to music.

Returning Speedway In Lights favorites include the animated snowman attraction, which features flying snowballs that build a huge snowman upon impact with the ground; and Dinosaur Village, with its erupting volcano and six dinosaurs. Other favorites include the cannon shot, the poinsettia wreath and candelabra. As always, motorsports-flavored displays will occupy spots throughout the drive. Approximately two million lights and 200-plus displays make up this year's Speedway In Lights Powered by TVA.

Once again the light extravaganza features crafts in Christmas Village, where children can pose for photos with Santa, roast marshmallows and enjoy hot chocolate.

Proceeds from Speedway In Lights Powered by TVA, benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities, a non-profit foundation dedicated to distributing funds to qualified children's charities. Funds from the foundation directly aid children in the Tri-Cities area. To date, Speedway Children's Charities has raised nearly $3.5 million for area agencies.

The popular Ice Rink at Bristol Motor Speedway also is back for the holidays and is again located in the BMS front parking lot adjacent to Volunteer Parkway (Hwy. 11E). The rink, which is 60' x 120', is open to Speedway In Lights visitors during evening hours for an additional charge.

Tickets for Speedway In Lights, open nightly 6-10 p.m., Nov. 16-Jan. 5, are available at the BMS gate. Ticket prices for cars are $10 Sunday through Thursday, and $12 Friday and Saturday. Activity van tickets are $15 each night and bus tickets are $65 each night.

The Ice Rink will open six days a week, beginning on Tuesday, November 13 and running through January 13. Tuesday through Thursday, the rink will open from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday hours are from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday the rink will open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The cost to skate is $5, plus an additional $2 for skate rental.
