Simply put, there's one more big surprise under the old BMS Christmas tree that is being offered up for visitors to the holiday light show on Jan. 1. Anyone who comes out that evening will get a little something extra to extend the goodwill and glad tidings of the holiday season.
"Who doesn't like surprises at this time of the year," said Jeff Byrd, president and general manger of Bristol Motor Speedway. "Sure, Santa's already headed back to the North Pole but that doesn't mean we still aren't in the holiday spirit. This will be a great way to kick off 2008. I really hope lots of folks come visit us that evening so we can get the New Year off to a fantastic start for everybody."
Speedway In Lights will open that evening at 6 p.m. and remain open until 10 p.m. The light show, which boasts nearly two million lights and nearly 200 displays, is open through Saturday, Jan. 5.
Proceeds from Speedway In Lights Powered by TVA, benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities, a non-profit foundation dedicated to distributing funds to qualified children's charities. Funds from the foundation directly aid children in the Tri-Cities area. To date, Speedway Children's Charities has raised nearly $4 million for area agencies.
Tickets for Speedway In Lights are available at the BMS gate. Ticket prices for cars are $10 Sunday through Thursday, and $12 Friday and Saturday. Activity van tickets are $15 each night and bus tickets are $65 each night.
