Mark Martin was all smiles after earning the pole for Sunday's Food City 500.

Mark Martin made the best out of his new set of wheels by earning the pole for Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, his second pole in the last two Sprint Cup Series races.

Martin earned the Ford Fan Friday pole position, his eighth career pole at Bristol and first since 2001, by turning a lap in 15.256 seconds at 125.773 mph.

The Batesville, Ark. native said that being behind the wheel of his Sprint Cup car was better than any vacation he could ever imagine. It was his first time at the .533-mile track since August 2006.

Ryan Newman, also driving for a new team, put his Stewart-Hass racing machine second on the grid after running a lap in 15.260 seconds at 125.740 mph.

Three-time series champion Jimmie Johnson will start third on Sunday, with Greg Biffle and Kasey Kahne rounding out the top five.

David Reutimann, Reed Sorenson, Dave Blaney, Jamie McMurray and Jeff Gordon will occupy positions six through 10.

Saturday's activities begin with Nationwide Series qualifying at 9:40 a.m. and Sprint Cup Series final practice at 12:20.

The Scotts Turf Builder 300 Nationwide Series race rolls off at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Scotts Saturday Night Special, a race that will bring back memories of the way racing used to be. A 100-lap UARA event completes the day's action.

The Food City 500 takes place on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and will see the top NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers face "The World's Fastest Half-Mile."

Tickets are available for both events and can be purchased by calling (423) 989-6900 or by visiting www.bristoltix.com.
