BMS Named Track Fans Would Most Like To See In The Chase In NASCAR.com Survey
NASCAR fans are never shy about expressing their likes and dislikes and are extremely vocal when it comes to their rabid support of the sport's most popular track, Bristol Motor Speedway.
That devotion once again is obvious as the fans made BMS their No. 1 selection in the NASCAR.com Eighth Annual Fans Voice Awards as the Track Fans Would Make Part of The Chase.
The half-mile oval, home to 55 consecutive sellout Sprint Cup races, won in a landslide with 55 percent of the votes (11,983) in the recently-conducted online poll.
Jeff Byrd, president and general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway, appreciates the fans' continued support and dedication of BMS.
"We know that the fans are the reason for our success," he said. "They always have championed this Speedway and they are the reason we're NASCAR's most popular track.
"We certainly appreciate their desire to make us part of The Chase because it just emphasizes how much they love Bristol Motor Speedway and what it represents. But if NASCAR gave us the option of moving the two races with the biggest crowds on the schedule, we would have to consider what the fans who make them so popular want."
Finishing second in the poll was Watkins Glen with 24 percent of the votes (5,207), followed by Indianapolis with 12 percent (2,632) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway with eight percent (1,839).
The 2010 race season kicks off at Bristol Motor Speedway in March with the first short track racing of the season. The race weekend opens with Ford Fan Friday qualifying March 19, followed by the Scotts Turf Builder 300 Nationwide race and the Scotts EZ Seed Showdown, where the legends of the sport will take to the concrete oval, March 20. The weekend culminates with the Food City 500 Sprint Cup event March 21.
Season ticket packages, which include both March and August weekends, are available, as are the March weekend package and Food City 500 tickets. To purchase tickets, please visit www.bristoltix.com or call the BMS ticket office at 423-BRISTOL (274-7865).
