Subway Speedway In Lights 5k Run/Walk set for Nov. 11 at BMS
Making the trek through Speedway In Lights at Bristol Motor Speedway is a holiday tradition for many families – just as running the course at the Subway Speedway In Lights 5K Run/Walk Presented by Fleet Feet Sports has become.
Runners and walkers of all ages once again can take part in the Subway 5k Nov. 11, the Sunday prior to opening night of Speedway In Lights, one of the country’s largest holiday light shows.
Participants in the run/walk also get to preview the 16th season of Speedway In Lights, which opens Nov. 16, as they make their way through hundreds of displays and millions of dazzling lights. The 3.1-mile race concludes at the start/finish line of the World’s Fastest Half-Mile.
The SIL 5k begins at 6 p.m., offering participants the perfect setting to get into the spirit of the season.
Adults wishing to enter the 5k Run/Walk can do so for $20 in advance of the event or $25 the day of the race. Children 12 and under may enter for $10. Children aged three and under can participate at no cost and will not be timed. Participants may register online now. Friends and family members may make donations on the website in support of participants, which will benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.
All participants receive a long-sleeve event t-shirt. The top three finishers among both male and female runners receive event medallions in the following categories: Top Overall, Top Masters, Top Grand Masters, as well as the top three in the following age groups: under 10, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60 and over.
The top three overall finishers in both the male and female categories earn additional prizes. The overall male and female winners receive two suite seats to the March and August race weekends in 2013 and a free pass to Speedway In Lights. Second place is two grandstand tickets to both the Food City 500 in March and the IRWIN Tools Night Race, and the third-place runners receive two tickets to the Food City 500 event in March.
