Drivers Select Intro Songs for IRWIN Tools Night Race, Continues Five Year Tradition
Since August 2009, Sprint Cup drivers have marched to their own beat inside the World's Fastest Half Mile and this year was no different as Bristol Motor Speedway once again asked all 43 starters to select their own introduction songs.
Country hits dominated the 2013 selections with fan-favorite Clint Bowyer giving a nod to NASCAR's heritage, selecting George Jones's "White Lightning" and Michael Waltrip racing driver Martin Truex, Jr. paying tribute to country icon and pre-race performer Hank Williams, Jr. with his "All My Rowdy Friends" entrance.
Current points leader Jimmie Johnson continued the country theme and acknowledged the track's East Tennessee locale, choosing to play the line referencing Johnson City, Tenn. in the Darius Rucker's version of "Wagon Wheel."
Others chose to rock the Last Great Colosseum with songs like Matt Kenseth's pick "Seek and Destroy" by Metallica and Jamie McMurray's "Wild Side" by Motley Crue. "Twilight Zone" by Dutch rock band Golden Earring provided the background for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s walk down the intro ramp, and Danica Patrick selected the Pistol Annie's "Boys from the South."
Rounding out driver intros was pole sitter Denny Hamlin who ironically selected Drake's "Started From the Bottom."
