A pair of high school students from the area took top honors as Tennessee High sophomore Macy Carrier claimed the overall women’s title while Chuckey-Doak junior Simeon Roberts captured the men’s crown.

For their efforts, both Carrier and Roberts won suite seats to the March and August NASCAR race weekends at BMS in 2012, along with passes to AutoTrader.com Speedway In Lights.

The 15-year-old Carrier covered the 3.1-mile course in 20:37, which she said was much better than her effort a year ago.

“I ran in this race last year but I didn’t win my age group,” said Carrier, who like Roberts competes in cross country. “It’s really a great atmosphere and I had a lot of fun. There were a lot of people who run cross country here tonight and that made it even more fun.”

Carrier has been to several races at BMS but has always been in the grandstands for a NASCAR event.

“That’s going to be so great,” she said. “I like racing and I’ve never had the chance to sit in a suite. I really can’t wait now for the races.”

Roberts, who was coming off a fourth-place finish in the Tennessee state cross country meet a week ago, didn’t quite beat that time but felt he had a good showing with a 16.55 effort.

“I ran 16.44 at state,” he said. “So I didn’t beat that, but it was pretty good and it was a lot of fun. I really like this setup here and with all the lights and everything it really makes a great atmosphere.”

The second-place overall female finisher was Kelly Light (21:48) while Stephanie Wettin (22:00) was third. The overall male runner-up was Dalton Hudlow (16:551), followed by Hunter Wamack (17:19).

The second-place finishers won grandstand tickets to both the March and August NASCAR events at BMS in 2012, while the third-place finishers won tickets to the March 2012 Sprint Cup race.
