Tailgating is a time-honored tradition at any number of sporting events and the addition of any type of competitive contest only makes for more fun for fans.

A year ago, Bristol Motor Speedway introduced the Scotts Turf Builder Cornhole Classic to fans during its August race week. The tournament met with incredible success, making it a regular part of every NASCAR race weekend in Bristol.

Once again, BMS will be offering plenty of fantastic prizes to those who display the finest of bag-tossing skills during the Aug. 20-21 tournament. Qualifiers will be eligible to win cash, as well as 2011 season tickets for Bristol Motor Speedway, along with Food City 500 tickets.

The tournament’s grand champion will win $500, as well as suite seats for the 2011 IRWIN Tools Night Race, a free camping space, trophies and have their names announced during pre-race ceremonies for this year’s IRWIN Tools Night Race.

Cash also will be award to second through fourth places in the tournament with the overall runner-up receiving suite seats for the 2011 Food City 500, along with a free camping space.

There will be four qualifying tournaments held Aug 20-21 with the championship taking place Saturday afternoon. Tournament times are 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. Aug. 20 and 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. Aug. 21. The top two teams from each tournament will then play from 5:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m.

Proceeds from the Scotts Turf Builder Cornhole Classis benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charites, a non-profit organization that raises funds for children’s agencies in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. To date, in excess of $5 million has been raised for those agencies in the past 12 years.

August race week at BMS kicks off Aug. 18 with a doubleheader that features the O’Reilly 200 Camping World Truck Series race and the UNOH Perfect Storm 150 Whelen Modified Series event. Sharpie Qualifying and the Food City Nationwide Series race take place Friday night, Aug. 20.
