The 2010 NASCAR season has come to a close at Bristol Motor Speedway, but plenty of great racing remains as the World’s Fastest Half-Mile prepares to host the American Freedom Spectacular Saturday, Sept. 11.
The day features a pair of races – the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Spectacular, a 150-lap event, and a 200-lap USARacing Pro Cup Series show. Pre-race activities that day will pay tribute to the countless public servants who work tirelessly to ensure our safety.
Also on tap that day is the Fifth Annual Bristol Motor Speedway/Marsh Regional Blood Center Drive. The blood drive will take place in the parking lot at the north entrance of BMS from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Anyone donating blood will receive one free ticket to the American Freedom Spectacular, along with a goody bag.
Nine-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel brings his Street Stock Spectacular, a series he started just three years ago, back after a successful debut at BMS in 2008. The series features street stock cars – as many as 99 in a field -- that line up to start the race three wide, quite a sight on a half-mile oval.
The USARacing Pro Cup Series has staged a number of events at BMS over the years, the last of which Abingdon’s Caleb Holman won in 2008. Joining Holman in the field will be Chase Elliott, the 15-year-old son of former NASCAR champion Bill Elliott.
To cap the day’s activities, a 20-lap Charger Bonus Race will take place.
The Frank Kimmel Street Stock Spectacular takes the green flag at 3:15, followed by the USARacing Pro Cup race at 5:30. The Charger race kicks off action at 3 p.m. Gates will open at noon.
Tickets are just $15 for adults if purchased in advance, or $20 the day of the American Freedom Spectacular. Tickets for children 12 and under are $5.
