WEATHER FORCES CLOSURE OF SPEEDWAY IN LIGHTS TONIGHT, SUNDAY DECEMBER 22; Johnson Controls Ice Rink, HVAC Chill Hill Remain Open
Heavy rains saturating the Tri-Cities area in the last 12 hours have created conditions at Bristol Motor Speedway forcing BMS officials to cancel tonight's activities for Ford Speedway in Lights powered by TVA.
Standing water has made several areas of the route impassable.
"We have had certain areas affected in the past and have had time to create last-minute route changes," said BMS General Manager Jerry Caldwell. "But our main concerns are the safety of our guests and their experience while they are here. As disappointing as it is, with possibly more rain in the forecast this evening, the proper decision is to cancel tonight's activities. With no further issues, we expect to reopen Monday night (December 23)."
Johnson Controls Ice Rink and HVAC Chill Hill remain open.
It is the first time weather has forced the closure of SIL since Jan. 1, 2010
