Maroon and orange will be the prevalent colors at the Johnson Controls Ice Rink Wednesday, Dec. 15 during Virginia Tech Hokie Night.

Any fan sporting the Hokie colors will receive a free skate rental. Skaters also will be eligible for a drawing for tickets to see the men’s basketball team play Longwood Jan. 22 in Cassell Coliseum and the women’s team play Georgia Tech Jan. 27, also in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech schedules and calendars, as well as other Hokie items, will be given away that evening.

The Johnson Controls Ice Rink is now open each night through Jan. 16, with the exception of Monday, Jan. 10, when it will be closed.  Cost to skate is $5 and skate rental is $2. The rink opens for Virginia Tech Night at 4 p.m. and closes at 9 p.m.

The rink is open from 4-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, Jan. 3-6, Jan. 11-13, from 4-10 p.m. Dec. 17, Dec. 24-25, Jan. 7, Jan. 14, 1-10 p.m. Dec. 18, 20-23, 27-31 and from 2-9 p.m. Dec. 19, Dec. 26, Jan. 2, Jan. 9 and Jan. 16.

Proceeds benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, a non-profit foundation dedicated to distributing funds throughout the region to qualified children’s charities. Funds from the foundation directly aid children in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. To date, Speedway Children’s Charities has raised in excess of $6 million for area agencies.
