BMS Hosts Sept. 11 Blood Drive; First 100 Donors Receive Goody Bags
The Tri-Cities Patriot Day Seventh Annual Blood Drive, held in memory of those lost on the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The drive takes place in the parking lot at the main entrance of BMS from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
The first 100 donors will receive a BMS goody bag, along with a t-shirt, the chance to win memorabilia autographed by NASCAR driver Trevor Bayne and other goodies from Marsh Regional Blood Center. Also, donors can drive their own cars around the World’s Fastest Half-Mile from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. that day.
Over the last six years, the blood drive at BMS has resulted in nearly 1,000 units of blood being collected, while hundreds also have signed up for the National Bone Marrow registry.
For more information concerning the blood drive, please call (423) 652-0255. Walk-ups are welcome.
One blood donation can help save the lives of three people. And each year, over 35,000 people with life-threatening illnesses could benefit from a marrow or blood cell transplant.
All donors must weigh at least 120 pounds and be at least 17 years old. Donors must have eaten a substantial, well-balanced meal four to six hours prior to making a blood donation and should be generally healthy (i.e. no colds, sore throat, fever, flu or fever blisters) within three days of their donation. Donors should not have taken antibiotics within seven days of donating blood. Also, anyone who has had a tattoo, accidental needle stick, or exposure to blood in the past year will not be eligible to donate.
