NYC Media Tour begins 100-Day Countdown Kickoff To The Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol
To celebrate the 100-day mark to the Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol, College Football's biggest game ever, key representatives descended on New York City for a one-day media tour. Following is a list of the day's events: for the photo gallery, click here.
7:35 a.m.: Kirk Herbstreit on ESPN SportsCenter Live
The whirlwind day kicked off with Kirk Herbstreit, analyst for ESPN's College Game Day and college football color commentator for ABC, appearing on ESPN's SportsCenter Live to talk about the already-legendary matchup between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
"This is a highly anticipated football game," said Herbstreit on SportsCenter. "They have been looking at trying to put the game together for decades and it is finally going to come to fruition the second week of the season and going to be on ABC on Saturday night [8 P.M.]. It's a huge celebration for the state of Virginia and the state of Tennessee as Virginia Tech and the Volunteers get together."
9:30 a.m.: NYSE Opening Bell
Speedway Motorsports Inc. (NYSE: TRK) (SMI), Chairman O. Bruton Smith, along with representatives from Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS), Pilot Flying J, the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech gathered at the New York Stock Exchange for the ringing of the opening bell. 10:30 a.m.: Sirius XM Studios
It was a battle on the airwaves as former Vol and now-retired NFL star Deon Grant, named a consensus All-American in 1999, met former Hokie safety and current Washington Redskins strong safety DeAngelo Hall at the studios of Sirius XM for an interview on NFL Radio, College Sports Nation and Bleacher Report Radio.
11:30 a.m.: Takeover of Times Square
Smokey and Hokie Bird joined an all-star Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol cast as the game took top billing in Times Square. For the photo, click here.
12:30 p.m.: Media Luncheon
The group traveled together to the 21 Club for a media luncheon, gathering with representatives from Associated Press, USA Today, ESPN, Sporting News, Business Insider, Sports Business Journal, Bloomberg and the Street.
