Progress continues on the new racing surface at historic Bristol Dragway, as crews work to complete a major track improvement project that will deliver one of the newest racing surfaces in the country at Thunder Valley.

The new concrete surface is being installed from the starting line to the 1/8th-mile mark of the legendary dragstrip. Weather permitting, track officials expect to pour the new concrete April 14-16, allowing the surface the proper time to cure ahead of competition.

“This project is all about making Bristol Dragway even better for the racers and fans who love Thunder Valley,” said Jerry Caldwell, president and general manager of Bristol Motor Speedway and Bristol Dragway. “We’re making strong progress, and when the new surface is ready, it’s going to set the stage for an exciting season ahead.”

With construction continuing, Bristol Dragway’s first on-track racing events will not take place as originally scheduled. The affected events are the Summit Racing Equipment Street Fights on April 18, along with the DER Series weekends scheduled for April 24-26 and May 1-3.

The first event of the season, which does not include on-track racing activity, will be Large Cars & Guitars on May 8-9.
