As the calendar flips to the final two months of the year, the Bristol chapter of Speedway Children's Charities is busy preparing to host a pair of fundraisers to help get everyone into the holiday spirit, and officially kick off the annual Pinnacle Speedway in Lights.

SCC will bring back one of its mainstay events and introduce a brand new event to get the season of giving started. The popular Moe's Speedway in Lights 5K presented by Fleet Feet Sports will make its 2017 return and will be joined by the new Tastings, Bites and Twinkling Lights, a gourmet food, wine, craft beers and high-end spirits tasting.

"There's nothing better than the holidays," said Claudia Byrd, executive director of SCC-Bristol. "The season means so much to each person and for us, it means the time to give back. We can't wait to welcome some old favorites as well as a fun, new sampling event as we continue to make it our mission help all children in need in this region."

The 5K will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. Participants will be the first to gaze upon the hundreds of displays and millions of lights that make up the region's largest lights display and will get to finish the run at a holiday party located inside the oval. The route will take runners all over BMS property, including a trek through the dazzling Christmas lights displays, along Bristol Dragway and inside The Last Great Colosseum.

Guests may sign up with advanced registration for $30, which can be completed at http://bit.ly/SCCSIL5K. Registration the day of the run will cost $35. Kids 12-and-under are only $15.

New to The World's Fastest Half-Mile is Tastings, Bites and Twinkling Lights, which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. Set high atop BMS overlooking the holiday lights show, guests will enjoy tastings and bites from several locally highlighted restaurants, wineries and breweries. Some of these favorites include the Martha Washington Inn, The Virginian, Johnson City Catering Group, Abingdon Olive Oil, Tupelo Honey Café, Whiskey Rebellion, Studio Brew, Yee-Haw Brewery and more. All guests will also receive a special gift provided by Abingdon Olive Oil. Tickets for the event are $50 and can be purchased at http://bit.ly/SCCTBTL with all proceeds going to SCC.
