Historic Bristol Dragway is one of the featured stops in the 2018 Hot Rod Drag Week tour, taking place this week at four dragstrips across the Southeast.
 
The stop at Thunder Valley will get underway Thursday, Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. (gates open at 7:30 a.m.). Drivers will make competition passes during two separate timed runs on race day.
 
The popular event, hosted by Hot Rod Magazine, showcases street/strip cars which are driven more than 1,000 miles on public roads during the event that includes five races at four dragstrips over five days. There are 18 different classes in the event and NHRA rules for street cars govern the competition. In addition to racing on each track, competitors must drive their race cars on public highways to each of the five stops during the tour.
 
Prior to arriving at Bristol Dragway on Thursday, the tour will have visited Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia on Monday, Darlington Dragway in South Carolina on Tuesday and zMAX Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday. After racing at Bristol on Thursday, drivers will make the trek back south to Atlanta Dragway to complete the grueling weeklong race.
 
It is the 15th edition of Hot Rod Drag Week, and the first time the event has been held in the Southeast region of the United States.
